Watchful & Waiting
Story Behind This Painting:
Although a totem pole can be used to showcase clans, stories or other aspects of culture in the First Nations, I considered what the eye itself might mean to us, then and now. Having visited Haida Gwaii several years ago, I had noticed creatures had large, bold eyes that seemed to follow you. I enjoyed the challenge of watercolour in developing the texture of wood and how wood might weather in outdoor elements.
